The Rotary Club of Truckee, with the financial support of Rotary District 5190 has completed a district grant benefitting Hospitalito Atitlán, in Santiago Atitlán, Guatemala. On an April 2024 visit to Hospitalito Atitlán, members of the Rotary Club of Truckee witnessed the in-progress construction of new facilities to house a nursing school, blood bank and four new clinics.  These new facilities greatly increase the capacity of the hospital to serve the region surrounding Santiago Atitlán on the shores of Lake Atitlan.  Finding that the hospital was seeking support to equip the new facilities, the Rotary Club of Truckee sought a district grant which was approved by Rotary District 5190 early this year.  The budget for the grant was $5200 with $2500 coming from District 5190 District Designated Funds (DDF) and $2700 from the Rotary Club of Truckee.  District Designated Funds are funds passed through the District from The Rotary Foundation.

Purchased with the district grant were two medical carts, four gooseneck lamps, three wall mount otoscopes, and one newborn scale.  Funds from the grant also paid for a commemorative plaque acknowledging the contribution from the Rotary Club of Truckee and Rotary District 5190 to help equip the new facilities.  The plaque, written in Spanish, will hang on the wall of the new clinics.
